Revolutionizing Wildfire Response in the Inland Empire
Welcome to the JCSD Heli-Hydrant Project, an innovative initiative designed to enhance wildfire response and protect our communities. The Heli-Hydrant is a 10,000-gallon, remote-controlled water tank that allows firefighting helicopters to refill in under seven minutes. By providing a rapid and reliable water source in high-risk fire zones, this first-of-its-kind system significantly reduces response times, enabling faster containment of wildfires. Integrated seamlessly into JCSD’s existing water infrastructure, the Heli-Hydrant demonstrates our commitment to proactive safety measures and resource efficiency.
Future Expansion
The installation of the first Heli-Hydrant is just the beginning. JCSD is committed to expanding this critical infrastructure by installing three additional Heli-Hydrants across high-risk wildfire areas within our service zone. These strategically placed facilities will further enhance wildfire readiness, ensuring faster response times and greater protection for our residents, property, and environment.
Through collaboration with regional partners, including Riverside County Flood Control, JCSD has already secured funding for the expansion, with more support anticipated. By leading this initiative, JCSD is not only safeguarding its own communities but also inspiring neighboring agencies to adopt similar innovations for wildfire resilience.
Awards & Recognition
JCSD is proud to announce that its Heli-Hydrant Project has received the prestigious Excellence in Innovation Award from the Association of California Water Agencies. This award recognizes JCSD’s leadership in developing groundbreaking solutions that address critical community challenges. The Heli-Hydrant’s innovative design has set a new standard for the roles and responsibilities of water districts throughout California. JCSD is honored to be recognized by ACWA and will continue to lead by example, inspiring agencies across California to adopt similar innovations for the benefit of their communities.
